Welcome to Rooky’s Retreat.
Rookys Retreat, a place where travellers can rest for a while and explore the surrounding area.
Rookys Retreat is situated in the small township of Petford, which is located approximatley 80 kilometers west of the town of Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands and is on the Wheelbarrow way which ends at Chillagoe.
If you are travelling around Australia in a Motorhome or Caravan and you want to visit Far North Queensland, the area west of Mareeba to Chillagoe, is well worth having a look at.
The township of Petford originally housed miners and railway workers, had a shop and hotel, and supported the near mining town of Bamford.Years ago there was a school at Bamford, but later a school was built at Petford.
Emu Creek is very close by and there are some good little areas along the creek that you can visit for a peaceful outing or a picnic. Also Oakey Creek is nearby, but there is very little water in this creek until the wet season when it flows and has some good sites.
If you wish to stay for a while contact Mavis, and you can rest in these peaceful surroundings, enjoy the local birdlife and kick up your heels when the occasion comes around.
